About Me

Sreekumar Madassery, MD, is a vascular interventional radiologist at Rush. He earned his medical degree at Chicago Medical School and completed his fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at Rush University Medical Center. He also completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at Rush.

Madassery leads the limb preservation program at Rush. Peripheral artery disease, or PAD, is his main area of focus, along with related complex, minimally invasive procedures to restore blood flow called arterial revascularizations. He is an expert in deep vein arterializations, which can help patients avoid major limb amputations when that is the only treatment they’ve been offered. And he participates in several clinical trials related to PAD. Many of his patients are local and national referrals seeking second or third opinions.

“It’s not the simple drainages and biopsies that it used to be,” Madassery says. "Now we’re doing very complex interventions to treat cancer, complex arterial and venous disease, men’s and women’s health, and it’s really good to have that interaction with the patients to develop trust and a bond, so they feel secure and safe.” Our specialty started and pioneered many minimally invasive procedures and continues to do so, which keeps patient care and outcomes at the forefront.

Madassery also published a limb salvage book with contributions from over 60 international experts from many specialties, among several other publications. Other areas of focus for him include oncology and benign prostatic hyperplasia.

He believes in creating options for patients who may have been told that none exist. He does so by involving patients, their families and a team of physicians across many specialties in the treatment process. With this collaborative approach, he works to provide the most beneficial outcomes to patients and improve their overall quality of life.

When he is not with patients, Madassery enjoys spending time with his family, playing basketball, and going to Chicago Bulls, Bears and White Sox games. He also enjoys working on new endovascular devices.
