About Me

Sandra Naaman, MD, PhD, serves as the director of the Endo-Oncology Clinic and the Cancer Survivorship Program at Rush. She completed her MD-PhD training at the University of Ottawa, Canada, followed by a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Chicago.

 

Naaman specializes in endocrine complications related to cancer treatments, with a focus on metabolic bone diseases, including osteoporosis, osteopenia, calcium disorders (such as hyperparathyroidism and hyperparathyroidism) and vitamin D deficiency. She is certified by the International Society of Clinical Densitometry to interpret bone density tests.

 

Previously, Naaman directed the Breast Cancer Survivorship program at the University of Chicago Medicine, where she focused on the long-term and late effects of cancer therapies on cardiometabolic and bone health. She also created a women’s health curriculum incorporating cancer survivorship through ECHO-Chicago, a telementoring platform aimed at improving health care access for underserved populations. 

 

Her research includes various aspects of cancer survivorship, such as the impact of obesity on cancer risk and the effects of weight loss on bone density in patients going through endocrine therapies. Naaman is also actively involved in the education of medical students and physicians in training.

 

In her personal time, Naaman enjoys traveling, ballroom dancing and exploring French impressionist art.
