Patients learn to value different things in their life differently at different points in their illness. Their hopes, goals and values — in regard to what’s most important in their life — is not static. It changes over time. And we as physicians and healthcare providers need to be aware of how patients’ goals change over time and insure that the treatments that we’re providing reflect those goals.
