The majority of patients that we see come to us looking for early advice in prevention. That’s where my focus is. And so we perform these non-invasive tests, which are ultrasound-based. It’s rather nice for the patient, because it doesn’t invade their body. It’s no ionizing radiation. And they’re often getting the exam and looking at their heart on a screen while the exam’s going on.
Research is an ongoing profession, really. It compliments all the patient work we see. When the questions arise from the patients, we then take it back into a lab or to an experimental situation, try and learn more outside of the patient environment, then come back and treat them. The gratifying thing is, over the years, we’ve been successful translating our basic research into patient care. So it’s really a team effort that I’m on the patient’s side, our tools are on the patient’s side, and our goal is to beat disease.
