I am one of the co-directors and founders of the Center for Women’s Behavioral and Mental Health. I see exclusively women, and I see them during periods of emotional vulnerability. So, really, those can be mood fluctuations during their cycle. I see a lot of women that are planning pregnancy — who have prior histories of depression and anxiety — and wanting to know the best way to go forward and the safety of medications if they need it. I also see women if they’re experiencing post-partum depression.
There are a lot of psychiatrists out in the community that don’t necessarily feel comfortable treating women with any mood or anxiety disorders during pregnancy or post-partum. And, we really are a safe environment for them to refer their patients to because we have a full understanding of the safety of medications during pregnancy and post-partum.
