Rush University Medical Center is a major academic center in this country. As a part of that, the division of gynecology embraces robotic technology, which is the newest sort of technology that we utilize in performing gynecologic surgery on patients.
A lot of the times when I speak of robotic surgery to patients they’ll say, “Oh my gosh, a robot’s going to be doing surgery on me?” And I think it’s important that patients who are about to have robotic surgery understand that their doctor is doing the surgery. The robot is helping the physician do the surgical procedure.
Traditionally, we used to perform surgeries with large incisions, but with this new robotic technology, what we’re finding is that patients leave the hospital sooner and get back to work much quicker.
Not all conditions require surgery, and patients who come to see me have the understanding that we will look at all sorts of modalities and therapies to help treat their condition. It’s important for the patients to know that when they come to Rush University Medical Center that they will get the best care and the best care tailored to their condition.
