As a pathologist, what I really do is I provide information. I’m mostly the guy in the background.
As more specific treatments are available, there are more and more pieces of information that we can provide about how the patient is likely to respond to treatment or what their prognosis is — what is the likely course of their disease.
I think the rewarding part of my work here is the ability to actually have an impact upon patients. How they get treated depends, in varying degrees, on the input that I can provide to their treating physicians.
