Many people, for psychological problems, they just feel it’s something they have to face and live with. And they know for cancer or heart disease or stomach problems that they can come to a doctor and be taken care of. But they’re really rather surprised at how effective we are at affecting their depression, at lowering their anxiety, helping them sleep better, helping them interpersonally with their children, spouse, parents, families — and increase, really, the whole richness of their lives.
You can’t do the kind of work that we do without deeply caring for people and caring for their lives. And to see lives change so significantly — in ways that effect, not only themselves, but their children, their parents, their spouse and, really, multiple generations forward — that’s incredibly fulfilling to know that you’re involved in that kind of work.
