I love being a surgeon. Urology is a surgical field. I can see the results of my labor pretty quickly, and I can help people in many ways.
Urinary incontinence is a condition that people don’t like to advertise. Nobody likes to tell their friends about their problems — and even doctors. In fact, we know men and women with urinary incontinence don’t want to tell about their problems to their primary care physicians — and even specialists. So I try to talk to people in a very calm and relaxing atmosphere. I ask them questions about urinary control and put them at ease. And then I assure them that we have options for the treatment, and we tailor those options to their goals.
Incontinence is something that influences quality of life to a great extent. Sometimes people don’t want to participate in active lives. They don’t want to go outside. They don’t want to attend movies or go to a theater just because they have this problem. So we try to improve their lives so they can restore their normal level of activity.
