View Transcript No one walks in off the street to a radiation oncologist and says, “I think I need a few rounds today.” So patients come in having seen other doctors. And they have some idea of why they’re being sent for consideration of radiation oncology as part of their management. It depends on why they’re being sent. Often they’re being sent as part of a program that’s intended to cure them of a serious and threatening illness. Sometimes they’re being sent to get relief of a significant source of discomfort related to a serious illness.
I meet them where they’re at and listen carefully, engage them as human beings. And I take the fact that I have the opportunity to spend time with them as a wonderful opportunity to help the human being — who has a problem that brings them to me — because I’m specifically trained and interested in helping with that problem.
