I like to use visual aids. And I think that pictures and photographs and drawings are an incredible way to teach people and answer their questions. Most people seem to be visual learners — that is, they want to see, they want to understand. And if you show them, say, what a heart valve is, or what the thoracic aorta is, and then take them through a series of steps of what you’re going to do to repair, or fix, or replace this diseased organ or part, they understand. And here, understanding and knowledge is what takes away the fear.
