Not Remembering, and Not Knowing ItPeople who will develop dementia may begin to lose awareness of their memory problems two to three years before the actual onset of the disease, according to a new study by researchers at Rush.
We are able to provide the full spectrum of psychiatric interventions for fairly ill — and people who hadn’t gotten better in other treatment situations. We feel confident here at Rush that we can provide whatever is necessary in order to help people get better.
I think it’s very important to bring in support — whoever functions as a supportive person, whether it’s a spouse, a parent, a child, a friend — and I think it’s very important to have them in the room to discuss aspects of illness, what the treatment involves, what the recovery’s going to be, so that everybody understands what’s going on with the patient. And I think it’s comforting for the patient to have that, as well — that they’re not on their own, and that they can bring their support network in and have their support network also understand what it is that we’re doing.
