I tend to offer patients what is right for them and not necessarily what’s most cool or what’s most expensive or what’s necessarily most modern. Although these are great things — and we have here at Rush access to the most advanced technologies and very innovative and investigational procedures that we can offer them — a lot of time the simplest thing to offer is the most right thing to offer.
I always try to involve clinical data with my conversations with patients. You know kind of the headlines of studies that have been shown to be — that certain interventions are beneficial in their case. And kind of give them a little bit of compare and contrast between action or no action, or option A versus option B versus option C. This way the patient will be engaged, and they can make informed decisions.
