I take care of patients with sinus problems, and I take care of patients with skull base problems. So whether somebody has chronic sinus disease, fungal sinusitis or has a skull base tumor, the types of surgical techniques that we employ are using the endoscope and then a variety of other instrumentation that’s available to us.
One of the key areas of my focus is taking care of patients that have sinus and skull base tumors. With the advances in technology — especially with endoscopy — now we can tackle these tumors, working through the nose, there’s no incisions on the face, and often these patients can go home in a matter of days. We as surgeons may look at our surgical outcomes based on complications, but patients will measure the success of what you do based on their quality of life after you’ve done something to them. There’s no question in my mind that our patients do better, in regards to their quality of life, after these procedures.
