• Parents frequently are very alarmed when they learn that their child potentially has an abnormal heart structure or heart disease, and the fortunate part of my job is that almost all congenital heart diseases are not only treatable but curable, that they can live a normal long life. And the part of my job that I enjoy most is in helping the parents as they go through the difficult times and guiding them to know what to expect and to know what the next step is and to be there with them as their child goes from one phase of treatment to another until they’re stable. And then after that, we get to see them once a year and enjoy these visits as more reassurance that everything is going well than having to deal with acute events.
